Nearly 800 members of the National Guard—from every state, U.S. territory and the District of Columbia—have made the ultimate sacrifice and were killed in action since 9/11. Among all U.S. troops, 1-in-10 killed have been from the National Guard.

Since 40% of the National Guard are married with children, sadly 1,000 children have been left without a parent. The Leonardo DRS Guardian Scholarship Fund provides college scholarships to the children of National Guardsmen killed in service to our country since September 11.

The program is one of the company’s largest grants and has donated more than $500,000 since the program started in 2011. In that time, some 65 college scholarships have been awarded.

The program is fully administered by the National Guard Education Foundation and no additional overhead dollars are applied, meaning 100% of the donated funds are given to the students.

Funds are paid directly from the National Guard Educational Foundation to the respective colleges and universities and the money can be used to cover tuition, room and board, fees or books.

Applicants must be a junior or senior in high school with grade point average of at least 3.0 and must be accepted into an accredited U.S. college or university. Students already in college with a grade point average of at least 2.5 also eligible
