Food Drive in St. Louis Benefits Needy Families

December 21, 2018 --  DRS Land Systems staged a food drive to benefit the St. Louis Area Food Bank, a non-profit distribution center providing more than 28 million meals to needy families in Missouri and Illinois. The St. Louis site has conducted this drive for several years. Two pick-ups by volunteers to collect the donated food are done each year in time to benefit families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year the generous employees at DRS Land Systems donated 760 pounds of food, enough for 621 meals.

One in six people in 14 Missouri counties and 12 in Illinois, across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, need supplementary food. At 31 percent, children make up the largest segment of recipients. The St. Louis Area Food Bank is the region’s largest nonprofit distribution center dedicated to feeding people in need. The bank distributes to more than 500 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other outlets in the region.
