At Leonardo DRS, we have a team dedicated to the design and manufacture high reliability MIL-SPEC power conversion and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) for critical military applications. The company has fielded over 30,000 units including installations in over 250 ships throughout Canada, the United States and other fleets worldwide.

Our power conversion products are qualified to the same rigorous standards as the systems they support, either by test or by extension. Product reliability is ensured throughout our ISO 9001 processes, including design, in-house production and confidence testing, manufacturing by IPC Class III trained assemblers and after sales support.

In addition to standard products, we specialize in providing the optimal solution for challenging requirements, including backfit, forward fit and new design. Our customers turn to us to solve their most challenging issues, either with problematic in-service systems or for new applications. Leonardo DRS provides a complete range of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS) throughout the life cycle of our products. 115VAC Leonardo DRS' Point of Use power conversion equipment provides dedicated power to mission-critical combat and platform systems. Available in rackmount and console mount configurations, Point of Use power conversion is typically mounted directly in the system and needs to meet the same performance and reliability requirements. Our Point of Use equipment is designed and tested to meet or exceed these requirements, ensuring reliable performance for the long haul.

Naval Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E) – 440VAC Input Power Conversion / UPS

440VAC Our 440VAC power conversion is the backbone of both platform and mission systems throughout the surface fleet. Our HM&E power conversion equipment supports both individual and groups of platform and combat systems with proven reliability. Depending on the unit, our HM&E products are available in bulkhead, deck or rack mount configurations. A key feature of this equipment is the ability to meet shock and vibration standards without the need for special mounting provisions, giving it the flexibility to be installed where needed to support critical systems.

Naval Zonal Uninterruptible Power Supply – N+1 Redundant UPS

N+1 Redundant UPS The future of shipboard uninterruptible power supplies

Leonardo DRS has leveraged its experience in 440VAC power conversion to develop the next step forward in shipboard UPS reliability and availability. Our Zonal UPS features N+1 redundant hot-swappable 2kVA power and battery modules, and manual and automatic bypass, ensuring continuous uninterrupted operation of the load. Nominally rated at 8kVA, 450VAC, 60Hz, 3 phase input / output, the capacity of the Zonal UPS has the potential to be increased or decreased in 2kVA increments.

Not only does the Zonal UPS raise the bar in terms of reliability and availability, its modular design can greatly simplify the logistics burden of supporting multiple UPS manufacturers and models throughout the platform. By employing common power and battery modules, training and sparing requirements can be significantly reduced. Add in to this battery health monitoring, which can reduce the need to pre-emptively replace batteries prior to the end of their useful life.
