Medium Caliber Weapon System (MCWS) provides enhanced lethality for the Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT). Leonardo DRS Land Systems (LS) is one of six vendors awarded a contract to deliver a fully integrated bid sample in June 2020. With Moog’s Reconfigurable Integrated-weapons Platform (RIwP) as the centerpiece, Land Systems is responsible for making the necessary vehicle modifications on a GFE Stryker, fully integrating several technologies and deliver a Design Integration Study in 2020. The MCWS solution provides the enhanced lethality with the government-provided XM813 (30mmx173mm) cannon while maintaining the transportability, mobility and survivability of the platform. Additionally, the MCWS does not intrude on the interior space of the vehicle, maintains the use of all existing hatches, allows soldiers to reload direct fire weapons under armor protection, provides enhanced situational awareness using DVE cameras and supports the Javelin missile as an option. Because it’s very similar to the current Initial Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense (IM-SHORAD) program, this MCWS solution provides the Army a common turret opportunity for Stryker soldiers.
