DRS Technologies to Provide U.S. Navy with New Tactical Data Links for Up to Ten Years

ARLINGTON, VA, February 19, 2017 - DRS Technologies Inc., a Leonardo Company, announced today it has been awarded an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $22 million by the U.S. Navy for updated communications systems that allow ship commanders to securely share real-time tactical data information.

The initial five-year contract award for the Link-11/Link-22 tactical data system will total $9.3 million, with a second five-year option that could bring the total award to $22 million.

“This award continues a long relationship between the U.S. Navy and DRS Technologies in the design, development, fielding, and sustainment of Link-11 and now Link-22 systems,” said Aaron Hankins, vice president of DRS’ Advanced Intelligence, Reconnaissance and Surveillance business unit. “This solution also provides the warfighter with the ability to conduct field maintenance activities and system upgrades without returning the unit to a depot facility, saving the customer time and money” he said.

The replacement to the existing Common Shipboard Data Terminal Set portion of the command and control processor system will enable the U.S. Navy to utilize new technologies that increase bandwidth and extend transmit and receive ranges of time critical tactical warfighter data.  As this technology proliferates among other nations, the U.S. Navy will be able to more effectively and efficiently communicate with coalition partners around the world.
